Writing — Essay for the FCE Exam — Saudi candidates
10% of the FCE test plan. Writing a 140–190 word B2-level essay presenting arguments and opinions on a given topic. Calibrated for Saudi candidates.
Behind every published pass rate is a distribution of which topics caused most of the failures. This is one of those topics. Writing — Essay sits at roughly 10% of the Cambridge First Certificate (B2) content distribution — FCE Writing Part 1 is a compulsory essay — candidates must present two viewpoints from provided notes and give their own opinion. It is worth 20 marks and assessed on content, communicative achievement, organisation, and language range/accuracy. The essay is where B2 grammar range is most directly demonstrated. Pass rates for the FCE are published annually by the awarding body and vary by cohort and locale. For Saudi candidates preparing for FCE, the calibration of study to local context matters: GAT (Qudurat) and Tahsili gate Saudi university admission; IELTS and TOEFL are required for English-medium programs at KFUPM, KAUST, and overseas study.
