Writing — Essay for the FCE Exam — Korean candidates
10% of the FCE test plan. Writing a 140–190 word B2-level essay presenting arguments and opinions on a given topic. Calibrated for Korean candidates.
Most exam coaching covers the curriculum at the same depth across all topics. That misses the asymmetry of high-stakes testing: a few topics carry disproportionate weight on the score. Writing — Essay sits at roughly 10% of the Cambridge First Certificate (B2) content distribution — FCE Writing Part 1 is a compulsory essay — candidates must present two viewpoints from provided notes and give their own opinion. It is worth 20 marks and assessed on content, communicative achievement, organisation, and language range/accuracy. The essay is where B2 grammar range is most directly demonstrated. Pass rates for the FCE are published annually by the awarding body and vary by cohort and locale. For Korean candidates preparing for FCE, the calibration of study to local context matters: TOEIC and TOEFL are the dominant English credentials. TOPIK (Korean proficiency) and CSAT (Suneung) gate domestic outcomes.
